Roundabout is a kinetic sculpture composed of 3D printed "frames" of myself walking around in a circle. Volumetric data was captured using an array of four Xbox Kinects, and recorded with Brekel.
Roundabout is a visual exploration of personal representation on digital platforms. The sculpture is made of one hundred and twenty-eight miniature models of the artist pacing in a circle, each frame 3D scanned, compiled and printed in plastic onto a rotating platter. The models themselves are cold and dead, like the circuits in your phone, but similarly, when powered by electricity, they gain life and become animate. The models walk in a circle, not leaving anyplace, and not getting anywhere. Without judgement, this sculpture embellishes the inherent changes made to living people when they decide to give a piece of themselves to the machine.
